Karl the Contractor is busy in the basement adding a bathroom on the same floor as the studio – (there goes my art exercise – that is running upstairs to use the bathroom) and, god forbid, a ‘kitchen’ . It seems to me that this space is becoming a ‘man cave’ – complete with spear throwing range and beer refrigerator and I saw a HUGE tv (nobody needs a tv this size its more like a score board) peeking out from between the bikes stored in the basement.
This ‘space’ was claimed 13 years ago by me – the painter and my husband – the wood worker. Tons of painting, two books and several hundred experiments have occurred on the ‘art’ side. The woodworking side remains a pile of things that need to be repaired and or replaced with the exception of the infamous ‘eagle project’ which was done mostly in the middle of the driveway, not in the wood working shop.
There are of course no ‘cars’ in the two car garage. There are kayaks, camping equipment, a really big lawnmower (but some dude cuts our grass?), boxes of things from DH’s ‘side of the family’ – I just stay out of those all together…
So for the next few months, I will be resigned to sitting in my ‘upstairs art space – a chair with nine cubby holes placed next to it- holding markers, pencils and various art books – for creating ‘new works’.
Here was last nights finished PetWork – his name is Raleigh. He is just about the happiest dog I have ever seen. I am sure it will make his owner smile.
I also delivered the black lab PetWork yesterday and the collector that purchased it told me she cried when she saw it. I have mixed emotions about a sad reaction to my art – you know my tag line is , “happy art for happy people”…. but it was a memorial picture – the doggy had passed away two months ago.

So heres to a the smell of freshly cut lumber, the on-going he wants / she wants space discussion and more happy art collectors . Have an awesome weekend .
Sounds like you are having big fun in the basement! The dog protrai is wonderful, I am surlady will treasure it! Valerie
